John Dalton
1803
John Dalton, born into a quaker family in England, was the father of the atomic theory. He began as a meteorologist, keeping a record or the weather, but switched to chemistry for its real word application. The idea of the atomic theory was first brought to his attention by Dr. Thomas Thomson. He then came up with the physicality of it and conducted many experiments to support it. The atomic theory is:
1) All matter is made of atoms
2) Atoms are indivisible
3) Atoms in an element are the same in mass and other properties
4) In a chemical reaction atoms are rearranged and shuffled
5) Compounds are formed by two or more different kinds of elements
