A Greek, Hero of Alexandria, invented this device; it demonstrates the action-reaction principle.

The Aeolipile uses steam as a repulsive gas.  The water is boiled by a fire and the steam created enters the sphere from both sides and escapes through L-Shaped tubes creating thrust that causes the sphere to rotate.
