Emperor of Vietnam from 1926 to 1945.

His power was nominal under French colonial rule and he was briefly used by the Japanese as a puppet ruler. He abdicated in August 1945 but became 'head of state' following an agreement with the French in 1950. He ocntinued in this role until 1955 when he was removed by Diem. He retired to the South of France and the happy life of a playboy and died in 1997 at the age of 84.
