The Earth was formed by a supernova that exploded, which pushed many of its wreckage into a cloud of hydrogen gas and dust. This mixture grew hot, and at its center a new star formed. Around this was a disk made of the same material and grew white hot from compressive forces. The new star became our sun, and its disk created the Earth.
