Rocketry has been around for thousands of years, starting with Archytas's wooden bird. Since this first notable use of rocket flight principles in the year 400 B.C., rockets have become more intricate and complex. Today, many machines are being launched into space, whether they're orbiting the Earth, landing on the moon, or traveling to newly discovered areas of our solar system. Since we now launch many different things into space (robots, satelites, etc.) a wider variety of rockets have been created to meet the demands of all these diverse spacecraft. Beginning as mere gunpowder devices, rockets have evolved into massive vehicles traveling into outer space. Space exploration was only made possible by the innovations of rockets.
