Confederat forces overran the federal fort and captured it(C)
Fort Sumter
April 10, 1861
The Civil War started with the capture of Fort Sumter in South Carolina. The Union was low on supplies os Lincoln sent supplies to them. Thirty six hours later the Union surrendered and the Confederate won.(C)
First Bull Run
July 21, 1861
Georgia's 21st regiment lost 76% of it's troops alarming people who thought the Yanks would be easly defeated.(U)
Antietam
September 17, 1862
The first major battle to take place on Northern soil, it was the bloodiest single day battle in American history, with about 23,000 deaths.(U)
Emancipation Proclamation
September 22, 1862
A document affecting four million slaves in the United States. Lincoln wanted the South to end the war, and come back, plus end 244 years of slavery.
Gettysburg
July 1-3, 1863
It was the turning point in the Civil War because the Union won, ending Lee's invasion of the North.(U)
Chickamauga
September 19, 1863
Union General Rosecrans led his troops against Confederate General Braxton Bragg seven miles south of Chattanooga at Chickamauga. Bragg's army best the Union and forced them back into Tennessee.(C)
Battle of Atlanta
July 22, 1864
Grant moved his army east to attack Lee, the citizens evacuated Atlanta and the Union took over the railroads and factories.(U)
Savannah captured
December 22, 1864
Sherman gave the city of Savannah to Lincoln as a Christmas gift(U)
Lee's Surrender at Appmattox Courthouse
April 9, 1865
Lee's Surrender to General Grant at the Appomattox Courthouse Virgina, it offically ended the Civil War.(U)
