1. Discovery of Pluto- Pluto was discovered on February 18 1930. In Mythology it is known as the ruler of the Underworld. Pluto is the second largest dwarf planet known to man.Pluto

5. Challenger Disaster- the Chalenger space disaster occured in 1986 which exploded 73 seconds into it’s flight. The explosion killed the seven crew members inside. Failure of flight occured at a rocket on the right hand side of the shuttle

6. International Space Station Construction in Space- the Construction of this Space Station began in 1998. The station has been placed around low Earth orbit. Construction has been predicted to end at 2015International space station

7. Hubble Space Telescope Placed in Orbit- The Hubble space Telescope was placed into Orbit by a shuttle in 1990. Hubble is the Largest known telescope in space and is constantly giving new info to Astronomers. Although the Hubble was the first of it’s kindPicture of the Hubble Telescope

8. Columbia disaster- The Columbia Disaster occured on Feb. 1st 2004. The shuttle disintegrated over Texas out of Earth’s Atmosphere the cause of the explosion was caused by a small foam insulation that broke off the engine

9. First Satellite in Space (Sputnik)- The Launch of Sputnik began on October 4th, 1957. The Launch of Sputnik sped up America’s drive to go into space before the Soviet Union. Sputnik was the worlds first transmitting satellite.Sputnik, first satelite in space

10. Apollo XVII- Apollo 17 was launched on December 7th, 1972. IT was the 11th manned flight made by NASA.
11.  First Successful Plane Flight- the first successful plane flight was made by the Wright Brothers in 1899. It was a biplane kite meant to be flown as a kite.

12. Apollo XIII- The Third manned shuttle intended to land on the moon, but a problem erupted 2 days later. The Launch happened on April 11th 1970 with a crew of 5. The explosion disrupted the landing module, but were able to return safely to Earth.Apollo 13

13. Man’s First Orbit Around the Earth- man’s first orbit around the world began Febuary 20th 1962 by John Glen on a shuttle known as the Friendship 7. This marked America’s first man into space, as well as the world. The Friendship 7 made a round trip around the world 3 times.John Glen, the First man to go into space

14.  Spirit & Opportunity land on Mars- Spirit and Opportunity landed on mars on October 1st, 2006 to discover the Mystery know as Mars. The rovers could move for 44 yards at a time and are constantly taking photos of rocks and land.Spirit on Mars

15.  Pathfinder lands on Mars- The Pathfinder landed on Mars on December 4th 1996 and landed July 4th 1997. The rovers bring scientists useful info on Mars geology, atmosphere, and climate. Along with this it shows soil and rock compositions.

16.  U.S. Skylab Placed in Orbit- Skylab was America’s first lab in space and was placed there in 1973. The Sky lab reentered earths orbit and disentegrated. The Skylab orbited Earth 2474 times.Skylab disaster

17.  Apollo XI- Apollo 11 landed on the moon on July 20 1969. This was a victory for America during the Cold War Space Race. Eugene “Buzz” Aldrin and Neil Armstrong are considered the first humans to set foot on the Moon.Buzz aldrin on the moon

18.  Viking Lands on Mars- Viking flew around Mars orbit on June 19 1976. Viking was 1 of two ships sent up by NASA. Viking holds a record for 2nd longest time around Mars orbit 116 times.

19. Voyagers 1&2 are launched- Voyager 2 was launched on August 20th 1977 while Voyager was launched 16 days later. Both crafts visited Jupiter and Saturn, but Voyager 2 continued it’s trip to Neptune in 1990. Voyager 1 and 2

20. Voyager 2 reaches Neptune- Nasa’s shuttle Voyager 2 was the first to observe the Planet neptune. Voyager is the first shuttle got more close to a planet than any other shuttle after 12 years away from Earth. Voyager 2 is still used.Photos of Neptune
