KS Space Exploration Timeline
http://nineplanets.org/pluto.html In 1930 Pluto was discovered by Clyde W. Tombaugh at Lowell Observatory in Arizona. It was quickly determined to be too small for a planet so it was classified as a dwarf planet. Another reason that Pluto was considered a dwarf planet was because it was mostly made up of rocks and ice then it was considered to be a member of the Kuiper belt. Since the discovery, Pluto has not been visited by a space craft yet, even the Hubble Space a Telescope can resolve only the largest features of the surface. There is hope to find out more about this planet because the New Horizons was launched in January 2006. If everything goes according to plan this spacecraft should reach Pluto in 2015.
