Greece or any civilizations prior to Greece all originated on the Small island of Crete located in the Aegean sea. the first civilization to inhabit the island of Crete were the Minoans. they relied mainly on trade because they were a somewhat isolated island. It was around 1500-1600 B.C. that the Minoans prospered. Proceeding the Minoans were the Myceneans. it is believed that the Minoans suffered an abrupt end at about 1400 B.C.. Like the Minoans the Myceneans were sea traders and used the skills of writing. the main thing we remember about the is the Trojan War. it was fought between Mycenea and Troy. it was an epic battle that held a lot of myth that was won by Mycenea. soon after that they were conquered by the greek speaking sea traders known as the Dorians. after the fall of Mycenea in 1100 B.C. for about 200 more years Greek people forgot many important skills. One of them being writing and they declined for a bit. as time passed the Greek people lived in small isolated villages and eventually began advancing once again.

while living in isolation, either in valleys or on islands city states began to form. like the previous inhabitance of the Greek land the city states prospered from trade and began implementing ideas discovered while trading.the Greek city states had a simple general layout which consisted of the Acropolis which was the main central city generally on a hill, and a polis which was all the surrounding land. the states were male dominated. the two main front runners in the development of Greece were Sparta and Athens. they indeed were the most prosperous out of the many city states yet they were so different. Sparta was a very aggressive military centered city state while Athens was more intellectual and focused big on trade and economics. Athens was famous for starting the idea of democracy. Like other city states women didnt have political power in Athens but women did play somewhat of a role in society. the Greeks were always butting heads but they shared a few common values and ideas. they all had the same polytheistic religion, spoke the same language and hated foreigners.

while Greece was growing so was the vast empire of Persia. in 499 B.C. Persia attempted to take control over Greece but Greece rebelled thus sparking the Persian war. during this time the Greeks united. in the end the Greeks defeated Persia. after the war Athens becomes very powerful economically and ultimately is controlling the everyone with money. Sparta becomes nervous and attacks Athens splitting Greece into two groups which were basically Athens and Sparta supporters. Sparta eventually defeated Athens thus evening out the power distribution for a while. though while Greece was recovering the northern kingdom of Macedonia had its eyes on greece. eventually greece fell to the Macedonians.
